What is an Overdenture?

Overdentures in Ventura

Rohan S. Toor, DDS Overdentures for Ventura Community

An overdenture is a kind of denture with dental implants as support. These dentures click onto attachments of dental implants rather than attaching to your gums with glue. An overdenture offers better stability than conventional dentures and preserves jawbone density.

Fixed implant-supported overdenture

A  fixed implant-supported overdenture is a fastened implant-supported overdenture. Fixed implant-supported denture is  not removable, and is the most stable type of overdenture. The only drawback is the difficulty in cleaning and requires a dentist to take it out.

Bar-retained implant-supported overdenture

A bar-retained implant-supported overdenture has a bar affixed to the implant to attach the denture. The design allows the denture to clip on and off the implants as needed and provides more security than conventional dentures.

Ball-retained implant-supported overdenture

A ball-retained implant-supported overdenture has a ball-shaped abutment. This design is the best option for the lower arch, where 2 or 4 implants are typically placed in the jawbone. A ball-retained implant-supported overdenture provides better stability and functionality compared to conventional dentures.

How does Full Dentures Process works?

Dentures are custom-built for you. The procedure for complete dentures guarantees that your  dentures fit, look, and function properly. These are steps for a complete dentures procedure.

  1. Dental consultation. A dental consultation is the first step in establishing the state of your teeth and oral health. We will search for any indications of infection, tooth decay, or prior dental work that might have an impact on the fabrication of your dentures throughout the examination. Before putting in the dentures and retrieving them, our dentist for complete dentures checks for any teeth that might need to be extracted.
  2. Creating the dentures. We will take measurements and a mold of your teeth once we have confirmed that you are a good complete dentures candidate. The dental lab will create the dentures based on these measurements.
  3. Fitting of dentures. You will be contacted to come to our office for a fitting once the dentures are finished. There should be no pain or any other problems when you wear the dentures. Adjustment will be made to your dentures, if required.

You'll need some time to get used to wearing your dentures. Your dentures will eventually have the same function and control over your teeth once you get used to it. However, you may first experience some difficulties eating and speaking with your dentures.

About Ventura

Ventura, officially named San Buenaventura (Spanish for "Saint Bonaventure"), is a city on the Southern Coast of California and the county seat of Ventura County. The population was 110,763 at the 2020 census. Ventura is a popular tourist destination, owing to its historic landmarks, beaches, and resorts.

Ventura was founded by the Spanish in 1782, when Saint Junípero Serra established Mission San Buenaventura. Following the Mexican secularization of the Californian missions, San Buenaventura was granted by Governor Pío Pico to Don José de Arnaz as Rancho Ex-Mission San Buenaventura and a small community arose. Following the American Conquest of California, San Buenaventura eventually incorporated as a city in 1866. The 1920s brought a major oil boom, which along with the post–World War II economic expansion, significantly developed and expanded Ventura.

Ventura is located northwest of Los Angeles on the California coast. The western portion of the city stretches north along the Ventura River which is characterized by a narrow valley with steeply sloped areas along both sides.
